I have taught for 20 years. I taught Prekindergarten - 3rd Grade as a classroom teacher. I decided to retire this year. With everything going on, my family and I thought it would be best. The position I had providing intervention to 4th & 5th graders was paid out of a grant and as we all know in times of uncertainty grants can be the first things to go. Every year my principal told me, "You have a job until the money runs out." So, this year, I decided to work from home and do my best to help other educators get the resources that they need.
Teaching is a profession that few understand. Teaching is constantly changing and evolving. Just when you think you have a grip and are thinking, "I've got this!" something changes. I want to help make the changes and the unexpected a little easier. My passion is teaching. My desire is to help teachers reach as many kids as possible, while maintaining a balanced home life. I hope the resources I provided will help teachers reach a balance between their home life and their profession.
That was my original statement and the changes we are currently experiencing with COVID-19, it really drives home how education is always changing and teachers are continuously having to change and adapt to meet the needs of our students.
Word play is a building block for reading. Hearing rhymes is a precursor to producing rhymes both of which are foundational skills on the reading continuum.
This is a great distance learning activity for young children. The game is set up with learning mats that contain pictures. To the right of the rhyming mat are corresponding rhyming pictures that can be dragged onto the mat next to its rhyming partner.
This Bundle includes 3 products that are sold separately, Rhyming Game, More Rhymes, and Even More Rhymes.
Children begin their reading foundation by learning the names of the letters of the alphabet usually through song and rhyme. Repeated manipulation of letters helps children to begin to notice the commonalities and difference of each letter shape, which will lead to letter naming.
This activity is great for distance learning.
This resource includes activities to:
•Match lowercase letters to lowercase letters
•Match uppercase letters to uppercase letters
•Match lowercase letters to uppercase letters
•Match uppercase letters to lowercase letters
•Alphabetical order of lowercase letters
•Alphabetical order of uppercase letters
As children begin to read, the need to recognize words quickly is an important skill for them to acquire in order to become a fluent reader. Dolch has five-word lists that include 220 basic sight words, or high frequency words, that are most common in beginning reading. The five Dolch lists are: pre-primer, primer, first grade, second grade, and third grade.
This activity includes all 40 Pre-Primer words. Each word slide includes a box where they can read the word, a box to build the word with corresponding letters in a letter bank, and a text box on the bottom of the page for them to type the word. I adapted this activity from Read It, Make It, and Write It so it could be used as a distance learning activity.
Word families are important because they help young children recognize and analyze word patterns when they are learning to read. Word families aid students in understanding that if they can spell or read one word, they can apply that spelling pattern to other words so that they can spell and read other words also.
This is a great distance learning activity.
This activity will allow students to make words, read words, and then differentiate between real and nonsense words.
Letters are the building blocks for all text. Children need to be able to quickly and with little effort recognize letters.
There are numerous activities you can engage children in to help them learn to recognize and name letters. A couple of these activities are:
1) Concentration - Beginners can start with letter cards face up taking turns pairing letters. As they become increasing familiar with letters, they can turn the cards upside down, taking turns flipping over two cards in order to match the letters. Both of these activities can be done with both uppercase and lowercase letter cards. After they are familiar with both uppercase and lowercase cards, the games can be played with one set of each cards where the child matches the lowercase card with the uppercase cards.
2) Letter sorts - Children can look for similarities in letters and sort the letter based on likes and differences.
This is a card game. You may start with any child that you wish, The game is written in a loop where you will end with whomever went first. Give each child a card. The first child will read I have...__ Who has...__ The student who has the letter on their card in the I have category, then reads their I have... Who has card. The game continues until all cards are read.

CCSS- RF.K.1d Recognize and name all letters of the alphabet.
This activity will allow students to practice counting and number recognition, both of which are crucial mathematic skills. By using ten frames, children will begin developing number sense within the context of ten which will later help with understanding of place value.
This is a great distance learning activity for young children. The activity is set up so that the child can count the number of dots on the ten frame and then drag the corresponding number to the box on the right. As a teacher, you can choose which slides to assign to your students through google classroom. The slides vary from being in order to random placement.
Subitizing is an important foundation for number sense. Subitizing is the ability to recognize a small number of objects and know immediately how many are there without having to count the objects. When people are easily able to recognize quantities, they are able to estimate, compose, and decompose numbers.
A common way we objects are the pips on a die. Most people do not have to physically count the pips, they recognize them immediately.

Quick image dot cards are a good way to practice subitizing, which is the ability to recognize a small number of objects immediately without having to count the objects. When children are first introduced to this activity, give them counters so that they can replicate the image.
You will show the image to the child for a couple of seconds. You want to give them enough time to see the dots but not enough time to count the dots. After you have flashed the image, ask the child to use their counters and create the image from the card.
Quick images are also great way to practice composing and decomposing numbers. After you flash the card ask them how many dots they saw and then ask them to explain how they saw the dots. An example would be if they saw total of 4 dots and then explained that they saw 3 dots and 1 dot. This will reinforce 3+1=4 or 4-1=3 without having to use the formal language of addition and subtraction.
This is a card game. You may start with any child that you wish. The game is written in a loop where you will end with whomever went first. Give each child a card. The first child will read I have… ___ Who has…__. The student who has the correct number on their card in the I have category, then reads their I have… Who has… card. The game continues until all the cards are read.

Common Core State Standards - K overview: Counting and Cardinality
• Know number names and the count sequence.
Learning to count and represent numbers is a crucial mathematic skill. This activity can help children practice recognizing numbers and building the corresponding number of links to represent that number.
This counting center helps students work on number recognition, one to one correspondence, and fine motor skills.

Patterns are everywhere! There are patterns in nature, music, and literature.
It is important for children to learn to recognize and later create patterns. Researchers say that learning and exploring patterns will help build a foundation for later math skills; as well as, helping develop critical thinking and logic.
This activity will allow students to practice counting and number writing, both of which are crucial mathematic skills.
Getting organized and staying organized is one of my number one focuses. I know when I can easily get to resources and materials everything in my classroom runs smoother.
The first thing I want to share as a tool for organization are labels for school supplies. When Meet the Teacher comes and kids bring their supplies, we are wondering how can I store all of this and be able to find it when I need it. One way to solve this dilemma is by placing tubs or boxes out so that school supplies can be sorted as one of the activities for students to complete with their parents. After everyone leaves, place the tubs into a cabinet or onto a shelf for easy access when it comes time for use in our classroom.

Most people don't believe us when we say it is easier to be at school than to be out. Having a notebook ready ahead of time helps make being out easier. By having essential materials always together in a notebook, you can quickly add the days lesson plans and be ready.

Having a well organized classroom where your students know routines and procedures helps make any school year a success. I use the large signs to label the classroom so my students can easily locate the center they are suppose to be working in. I use the small signs on a work board so that my students know which centers they are going to visit today. I have used the work board where I have chosen the centers for the students and also where I let the students choose which center they will work in. Choice usually leads to better engagement during learning time. Routines and procedures for each center need to be clearly in place before any center - chosen or assigned can be successful!
